gas tank sender and guage - question

I have a 20 gallon plastic tank - I'm gonna put a new sending unit in it
before installing it in the jeep. I wanted to get new autometer guages -
will any guage/sender unit work together or do these need to be calibrated
together or something?

I've seen that article, but it doesn't mention after market guages like
autometer - only the original or replacement guages.
