Even if the light is not actively on, there should be stored codes. Use the
scan tool to pull the codes, make a list of them and reset the codes. When
the light comes on again, compare the codes at that time with the codes you
get now, and then fix any problem that appears on both lists, the remaining
codes ought to go away after that.

That is exactly right. Codes are stored, like a diary. Pull the codes and
make your own diary, then erase the codes from the computer. Compare the
codes on the NEXT pull to see if there are any repeats, then service the
repeat as appropriate.

Jeff, I think you're overlooking the main cause of the problem. Read
Alan's next to last sentence above, he doesn't need a scan tool, he
needs a different service place! He's taking his Jeep to people who
apparently don't know to scan for codes and as long as they're
servicing his Jeep he'll be having problems, I'm afraid.

POINT OF ORDER
When listing codes, you should give all of the digits, P0141, P0455, P1694,
etc.

I'm not sure what the P1694 code is, another poster said it was a Tach.
Error of some sort. My source says FAULT COMPANION MODE. I do not know what
that means.

P0141 is a problem with an O2 Sensor Heater. The O2 sensor has a heater
built in that improves sensor stability while the engine is still cold, the
code you got says that the heater is not working.

P0455 is a gross leak in the Evaporative Emissions Control System. It could
be any number of things, but a loose gas cap is the leading suspect.
