Dodge Axle Swap: Considerations???
 

Looking at a pair of axles from an '84 Dodge W150; Dana44 front with
discs, Dodge 9.25 rear with drums (four bolt lug patterns). My Jeep's a '76
CJ-7 with the original D30 front/AMC20 rear & 11" drums all 'round.
Anybody have an idea of the following? Searched online but found a lot of
conflicting info (confusion about lug patterns, etc.)
Lug pattern
Width (is it ridiculously wide?)
Brake line connections (metric/standard? size? proportioning valve
compatibility?) (plan on going to Jeep power brake booster/master cylinder
from an '80's model CJ-7)
Yoke size (can I keep driveshafts with same U-joints?)
Would appreciate any considerations re: fitment, steering linkage, spring
perch placement, etc.

I have never seen either vehicle with a 4 lug wheel that said the W150
axel is most likley wider than the jeep

No. It's a 5 lug and the guy says it's a 5x5.5 (just like Jeep). But, my
internet search said that the Jeep/Ford rims won't fit 'cause the center
hole's not big enough for the hub.
The Dodge knuckles have the steering on the driver side with a tie rod
pushing/pulling front to rear so I'd have to get cross-over steering. At
first, the guy said he'd do it but was quoted $1,000 for the conversion.
Then, he said I could just get a machinist to plane the other knuckle and
bolt a bracket to it. Or, use a heim joint in place of the tie rod end,
with a bolt through it, and another heim joint to connect a regular tie rod
to the pitman arm. That's all good but the perches look too difficult for
me.
The center section spring perch is incorporated in the housing, just like
the D30. If I use it, both tubes and axles will have to be cut, right?
Before I'm done, won't it be easier and almost cheaper to get a custom unit
with discs from Currie?

Yeah. What exactly do you want to wind up with here? You have a 30 year
old Jeep with "original D30 front/AMC20 rear & 11" drums all 'round" that as
far as we can tell, is still operational. Why do you want to change it?
Disks are nice, but 11" drums aren't too bad either.

Yeah. What exactly do you want to wind up with here? You have a 30 year
old Jeep with "original D30 front/AMC20 rear & 11" drums all 'round" that as
far as we can tell, is still operational. Why do you want to change it?
Disks are nice, but 11" drums aren't too bad either.
