I see you have a question as to why I guessed bad ball joint even
though the poster said they were "tight". It's been my experience that
the 4X4 front end ball joints break inside and the rollers move to one
side and are if anything tighter. Because of the offset rims usually
found on the Dana 30s the rollers always move to the outside cause the
type of tire wear found on toe in, but just to that tire as:

side ball joint failure. And of course, my experience tells me the
knuckle end never bends up, that end is stronger than the tube at the
housing end where they often bend and then break that axle.
