Yep, it's my wife's strictly street 2wd Grand Cherokee. She barely

No one said that. The aluminum D44 is stronger than the D35c in many
ways (like its axleshafts) but it apparently has some sort of design flaw. I forgot to mention that the axle problem in my wife's 2002 Grand Cherokee is similar to what happened on her 1999 Grand Cherokee that had the same aluminum Dana 44.
