Re: almost stolen!

My point wasn't to advocate to shoot, but would be a deterrent to criminals
if all citizens were armed...in home and on person...(laws permitting...my
state sucks (Ohio) and we don't have a CCW). All states are different and
you can not lump all laws under the umbrella of the USA.

No. Trespassing is not enough.

TEXAS CONCEALED HANDGUN LAWS PC ?9.51. 49

PC ?9.42. DEADLY FORCE TO PROTECT PROPERTY. A person is
justified in using deadly force against another to protect land or
tangible, movable property:
(1) if he would be justified in using force against the other under
Section 9.41; and
(2) when and to the degree he reasonably believes the deadly
force is immediately necessary:
(A) to prevent the other's imminent commission of arson, burglary,
robbery, aggravated robbery, theft during the nighttime, or criminal
mischief during the nighttime; or
(B) to prevent the other who is fleeing immediately after committing
burglary, robbery, aggravated robbery, or theft during the nighttime
from escaping with the property; and
(3) he reasonably believes that:
(A) the land or property cannot be protected or recovered by
any other means; or
(B) the use of force other than deadly force to protect or recover
the land or property would expose the actor or another to a substantial
risk of death or serious bodily injury.

I could Google. But I do not know of any jackings, or home invasions.
They occur, I'm sure, but I've not heard.

I DO know of killings in defence of property that have gone without
prosecution.

Some states are a bit more generous in allowing people to defend
themselves, family, and property from lowlifes. Most of the old time
western states [excluding Kalifornia] are fairly liberal in
allowing the use of deadly force with discretion when someone
is on your property [rentals included] after dark or when
they may be presumed to be armed or even just physically larger.
One is expected to use appropriate discretion, but if someone
has already broken into your vehicle or is obviously attempting
to do so, their safety and continued existence isn't as high
on your list of alternatives as protecting your property is.
This may be why there is such a low theft rate in rural western
areas. Something about the highly unique sound of a Winchester
Model 12 pump shotgun charging the chamber tends to readjust
some perp priorities in a hurry. The ability of said pump to
create highly impressive displays of gunpowder flame from the
end of the barrel also tends to be a deterrent.
