I've never had cause to do so. My pass airbag has a switch, and I've never
had a frontal collision off-road. On-road either, for that matter.
I believe ABS also does not operate under a certain speed, but I am not sure
what that speed is, IIRC it's about 10mph. Checked my FSM, no mention of
what the speed is. There is mention of a "G-Switch" which "provides addition
deceleration reference in 4wd" but it doesn't go into detail. No mention of
ABS being disabled in 4wd.

My ABS has never been a problem off-road, either; I don't ever remember it
kicking in when it would have been dangerous. For that matter, I don't
remember it kicking in ever on the trail, but probably has kicked in
occasionally, say if you're stuck, one wheel is spinning and you put on the
brakes, that would cause the ABS to pump. But it's pretty transparent.

Re: Air Bags
Hi Matt,
I would like to try your TJs that doesn't have the five mile an
hour impact bummer. This site shows computer recorded deployment at
under three miles an hour, you know that little tattletale black box all
cars have installed: http://mfes.com/cdr.html An interesting statistic
shows you're actually eight percent more likely to be hurt in a car with
an air bag than not, if not wearing belts:

The Deer and Sunfire referenced a change in velocity (i.e. deceleration),
not vehicle speed. Under 3 mph and a deer won't do that kind of damage to
the car.

I wear belts religiously, so that's a non-issue.
