Why bother messing around with the axle?
I helped a gent do one last week and we just left the axle in place and
pulled the whole works out.
The u-joints can be replaced easily with the axle still bolted to the
hub.

Thats assuming you can get the hub out of the knuckle. If this is
the first time, it will be rusted in SOLID.

the first time, it will be rusted in SOLID.
