The main shaft is surface hardened, so you have to cut through the surface
with an abrasive cutting wheel, then finish the job with a hack saw. A mitre box would help for this part. You need a drill press or a real good eye to put the hole straight in the shaft, *if* you care about doing a professional quality job.
