Re: 87 YJ magically turned into a '92 XJ
The fan swap will eliminate any worries, but so does raising the body of
the Jeep. The body mounts are all going up an inch, about the same as the fan. I haven't seen or heard of many that do both the body lift and engine mount lift having issues. The one I have seen and helped with worked easily. It was actually a 1.5" body lift though, we took a 3" lift out of one YJ and I cut each mount in half on my miter box for use on two of them. Both Jeepers used to post here and still have their YJ's. Ok I just read that again, just what Jeep engine are you doing a lift on? I am confused..... Obviously the body lift would be on the YJ, the shackle lift (I think we've established it at 1.5") will be going on the same as soon as the rear shackles come in. The XJ won't see any lift until I'm confident it's running well enough stock. I think we started talking about the XJ again on the issue of the fan, since the XJ has the 4.0 while the YJ has the 2.5. I did just find this write-up for an XJ DIY budget boost that utilizes the same kind of AAL from a stock pack that you were talking about: http://www.rocklizardfabrications.co...dget_boost.htm On Jan 5, 6:21 pm, Mike Romain <roma...@sympatico.ca> wrote: > The fan swap will eliminate any worries, but so does raising the body of > the Jeep. Re: 87 YJ magically turned into a '92 XJ
Whatever you decide, make sure it fits your needs and budget. A good SYE
will is not a basket of problems. It only takes about 2 hours from stock shaft to complete SYE installed. The t-case only needs three special tools for changing the main shaft. A 10mm 12 pt socket, inside snap right pliers, outside snap ring pliers. DO NOT attempt an SYE on an NP231 without those tools. FWIW, my YJ was my Daily driver. Work was around 25 miles away. In those days, I was a truck driver so maybe I was a little more used to sitting way up high than most. Well, I am extremely happy with my lift. I clear everything I try, the
stock spring packs are hardtop ones so it stays level even with a load on it and it hasn't sagged in 8 years. I used to off road 'hard' some days and still load it to the roof, with racks and boxes up top and a back rack above the spare and 3 adults for a 2000 mile camping trip last summer and it purred. Here are links to some of the runs I have had it on. Most folks in these photos are from this newsgroup and alt.jeep-l. Mine is the white 'glass CJ7.
