Re: 1997 Wrangler Problem....
The drive shaft is binding.
The lift has altered the angle of the pinion shaft relative to the angle of
the tcase uptput shaft. These two shafts need to be parallel, not pointed at
eash other. The corrective action is to lower the tcase (the parts should
have been included with the lift kit), or raise the pinion, or a combination
of the two.

Did you install SYE and new drive shaft? That's pretty much the same
behavior mine had with a 2" lift before I lowered the transfer case.
It was always worse on an incline.
4" lift kits always seem to include a transfer case lowering kit, but
at that height, it's almost never adequate to get rid of the driveline
vibrations that result. Need a SYE and new driveline IMO (my thoughts
anyway). Would explain why it didn't seem to happen with the rear
shaft removed anyway.
