Re: 1993 YJ transfer case question
Hi Chris,
I believe you're stuck with NP 231 transfers that fit your AX-15
there's even a difference between that other Japanese transmissions:
http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/np231.htm Why don't you go back
another couple of years get a Jeep with a Real transmission and
transfer, and rear end?

Re: 1993 YJ transfer case question
Bill,
I wouldn't mind a CJ at all, even though I began this quest looking for a
Wrangler. The problem I have is finding Jeeps for sale here that aren't at
some ridiculous price. The second problem is that I live in an area that
takes its toll on vehicles in the winter (rust). It's almost impossible to
find a CJ in any condition here, let alone something that has a body panel
left on it. I live in a relaitively small town so there isn't much to choose
from. Whatever I buy will be a long term project to build the way I want it,
but it would be nice to be able to drive it while I accumulate the parts for
the mods I intend to do. I also have many friends who have auto related
businesses so some of the mods I want to do won't cost me a fortune. I also
have a pretty well equipped shop of my own. I basically am looking for a
Jeep that is a solid starter for my project. Ths basically means I need a
good frame and a decent tub. The rest really doesn't matter. This particular
Jeep I am looking at has very little rust, at least according to the owner,
and also has a few things done that are to my liking. All that said, i am
still looking at a 380 mile round trip just to look at a Jeep that may be a
POS. I'm waiting for the pics to be emailed, so hopefully that will help. To
give you an example, I know of 3 CJ7's in the area. My good friend owns one
of them. The other two are not for sale, and I have been told won't ever be.
When I see someone that has a YJ and have a chance to talk to them, I tell
them I would be interested in buying their Jeep when they are ready to sell,
but the phone hasn't rang yet. there's just not much to choose from here.

Re: 1993 YJ transfer case question
Chris,
Don't listen to this old goat, he still thinks points and condenser are high
tech!
YJs are fine and their transmissions & transfer cases last as long or longer
than any other Jeep. Look for a YJ NP231, they were sold in the hundreds of
thousands and you're bound to find one at a good price. A buddy of mine just
got one for his '93, with SYE already installed for $350.
