Re: {OT} -- Computer Problem
Sweet. I'll start doing some more research tonight. Should I look for
and accumulate programs before attempting an install? Or just see what
the particular distro comes with and get stuff as I figure I need it?
Thanks guys!

Re: {OT} -- Computer Problem -- UPDATE, FIXED (I think)
I delivered the machine back to my b-in-law's house, where he set about
reloading McAfee Internet Security Suite, where upon completion the machine
lost a race with a snail.
I removed McAfee, again, and the speed is back. We'll be looking for new
protection ...
The odd thing is, I run McAfee and my computer runs fine. I have an HP
Pavilion, he runs a Great Quality <whatever>. I suppose the difference is
that the Chinese have better motherboards than the Koreans ...

Re: {OT} -- Computer Problem
LOL! This is Linux! The packages (programs) are FREE and most everything
you'll need is included! Like I said, try MEPIS. Easy newbie centric
set-up and the available base of all packages in Ubuntu. And drop by
MEPIS Lovers Forum. Very helpful bunch over there.

you'll need is included! Like I said, try MEPIS. Easy newbie centric
set-up and the available base of all packages in Ubuntu. And drop by
MEPIS Lovers Forum. Very helpful bunch over there.

Try AVG Free ver. 7.5 for anti-virus and their free spyware program
works well. I use them both on my Windows XP drive. And you can't go
wrong with AdAware and SpyBot S&D.
