Default Mandatory NAV on builds

FYI...

Seems Jeep massively over ordered the NAV systems this year and all remaining builds will have the NAV system - or they won't build your Jeep. I ordered a JKU Rubicon a few weeks ago and the dealer thought he could get away without including the NAV system. Jeep refused to build it.

Given the choice of paying $2k for a NAV system I did not want I said no thanks. The dealer quickly offered a very generous offer where they are eating most of the cost, so I did order in the end.

Dealer said that the mandatory NAV system seems to be affecting all orders - he had a guy looking for a bare bones Sport ($19k) and was forced to order the NAV system.

Since the dealers want the business, they seem to be largely eating the cost. Can't be fun for them but Jeep seems to be ramming it through.

If they want to sell, they can just throw it in at no cost to the buyer. Many dealers will take more off the MSRP then that to get a sale.

Perhaps in some cases but in my instance the dealer was not making much on sale – about $850 according to Car Cost Canada (not including freight and the 'paperwork fee' and then lost more than that on subsidizing the NAV system (about $1,200 of dealer cost in subsidy).

The dealer game has changed on the past few years and any profit on selling cars has virtually dried up and they make all their $$$ on service –which is why every service facility has been spruced up with WiFi, free cappuccino, etc.

Even before they subsidized the NAV, when you take out the sales rep’s commission, overhead, etc, they were losing money on the sale as they probably do on most sales.
