camping trailer for Jeep JK

Hey I'm new to this forum and fairly new to being a Jeep co-owner. We are looking for a Jeep trailer either complete or any base trailer that we can make a tent trailer out of it. We wouldn't mind finding an army jeep trailer (the smaller one) as I could custom make the interior. Any one who could help me find something like this would be appreciated. Don't want to spen $12,000 plus for a new one. Wouldn't mind knowing where I could see one in person at a trade show somewhere or dealership. Are there any around Ontario??

We bought one like this ( that's not us ) called a Sprite 400. We wouldn't even know its behind the TJ until you look in the rear view mirror. Its weather tight and cost $1500.00. If you do a search you will find an article describing how one of these trailer completed a Baja race towed behind a smaller car. They are tough. I think mine was built in the mid 70's. You can still find them in the classifieds once in a while.

I'm interested in this idea as well so I'll wait patiently on the side lines to see what develops. Been looking at tent trailers but would love something different to take offroad with a tent setup. Problem for me is trailers are hard to come by in these parts...

Thanks for the info Paul - I will check it out and see if I can find anything in this area that compares.

Here is a link to that article. I thought the Sprite was towed behind a small car, but was in fact pulled by an early Bronco. Even better as it is closer to the Jeep in size relationship. Your 2012 would pull one of these effortlessly.

Thanks Paul - I'm thinking if we put bigger tires under it might become a little top heavy but it is impressive what the Sprite went through on the Baja.

Hey Mike - Just bought a 2011 "Little Guy" - Rough Rider - 5 wide. It's the size of a queen size mattress (inside and comes with the mattress) in the tear-drop shape. This one is made to go off-road and will go anywhere the Jeep will go. It has a 3/8" steel skid plate completely enclosing the bottom and has big burly tires. (sorry not sure of the size but this one (used) is coming with 2 spares.) This one also has a battery pack which powers the roof vent and uses a wheelchair battery and charges while driving. You can get all kinds of up grades but I like what this one comes with. We get it at the end of March so I'll send a pic then if you're interested. Can't wait to go camping!!!

Kate, please post some pics and how you like it, I'm very interested! They look great.

Id be interested to know how much the trailer cost as well, not much in the way of pricing online.

This is mine. Fiberglass '73 Trillium 1300, 13' long, dry weight about 1000 lbs, sleeps 4, fridge, stove, all the amenties of home....made in Canada. There are many versions of this trailer some sleep 2 with a bathroom. Boler made some along with UHaul. They are super light and are classics.

They don't give them away though, you are in Ontario and there are many there for sale just have a look in Kijiji. I got mine from a lady who had it in her drive way for the last 20 years, 2 years ago she had it ready for the road but for health reasons never got to use it. I have driven by this thing since I was a kid. Everyday I told my wife I was going to stop in and ask if she wanted to sell, and I finally just walked up and knocked on the door and got it for $2900, ready to use.

I decided to do a frame off resto on it last winter and I sandblasted the frame, painted and installed brakes, and obviously painted it to match.

You can buy them brand new from Trillium now again. They sell for about $12-14G. But the originals are rare and classic.

Myself, wife 2 kids and the dog love it.

I get between 13-14 L/100KM pulling it.
