Low oil pressure!

Low oil pressure!
I was wondering if anyone can help me! First off i have the 4litre 6 and When i start my jeep the oil pressure starts off at about 3 then about 5 mins later it will drop to 2 and i have even seen it go down to 1 where it will act as if it wants to stall. I have heard that it means that my main bearings are no more good but then yesterday a guy told me it might just be my oil pump. can anyone help?

Re: Low oil pressure!
could be your oil filter all so, if there is a low cost oil filter without a safty blow by the oil can get restricted and cause all sort of problems, that are expensive, I hade the same problem on my caddy and one day the Fram rep showed up at the garage that I use to work at and showed us the difference, and wow what a differance, before I only put canadian tire oil filters, and did oil changes once every 2 months, after the demo I went home put on a fram and my pressure rose to normal, now Only fram goes on my cars,
But the first thing you should do is check your oil pressure with a external gauge before assuming your bearing's are shot, your gauge, sender, or lines could be cloge also lack of maintenance could cause sluge to build up and cause false reading's like I said start with getting your oil pressure checked, so many things can give low pressure that you need to start with basic's
Let me know what your pressure is

Re: Low oil pressure!
I just had that exact problem on my WJ. I pulled the harness off of the sending unit, it was full of oil. And I had other issues with the WJ too. LOL!!!

im having same problem...i starts my jeep and its reading perfect on 3...after using it slowly drops off to the point that when it idles it comes up "check guage". ive read that you can check the dash gauge urself by unpluging it when the jeeps ignition is in the ON position and it should read maximum on the gauge. Ive done this and it only goes about 1/4 way up and then drops to 0. would this mean the problems in the gauge? also, its a 99 cherokee 4.0l.
Sorry for hyjackin your thread but seems to be a common problem and i cant find any anwsers!

Re: Low oil pressure!
Well first thing the gage is electric so unpluging it wont do anything, it ether works or dont, the only thing that could really affect the gage once it warms up is if you got an intermittent ground probleme but that is unlikely since it still reads, so let go to next probleme it could be the sender, that is faulty and you cherokee is a 99 so put a scan tool on and you will know if the sender is faulty if the scan tool reads the same as your gage you know that there is a problem there, change the sender or get the pressure checked to assure yourself that the probleme is electric and not engine problems, if its engine probleme see responce I gave in november if that don't help let me know
