Low oil pressure on 88's XJ
Hello
I have a low oil pressure on my 6L 242 engine : about the first 1/4 of the
jauge on idle and 1/3 maximum @ 4000RPM. It has about 150 000 Miles (215
000Km).
I think I have to replace the oil pump ? or did I have to change something
else ?
Thanks for advice. I'm in France and here those cars are "exotics" (6L 4L
automatic, here there more 4L 2.1LTurbo Diesel mecanic) for mecanic
services.

Check your oil pressure sender first. They are nortorious for soft
failure where the readings get quite off. US$25, 30 minutes to change out.

Re: Low oil pressure on 88's XJ
That pressure doesn't sound too far off for an 88. The senders are not
known to be very accurate when they get old. I would first clean the
connection on the sender, then change that or have someone put a
mechanical one in to test the real pressure before ripping into the
engine.
