Low oil pressure on 88's XJ
Hello
I have a low oil pressure on my 6L 242 engine : about the first 1/4 of the jauge on idle and 1/3 maximum @ 4000RPM. It has about 150 000 Miles (215 000Km). I think I have to replace the oil pump ? or did I have to change something else ? Thanks for advice. I'm in France and here those cars are "exotics" (6L 4L automatic, here there more 4L 2.1LTurbo Diesel mecanic) for mecanic services. |
Re: Low oil pressure on 88's XJ
Check your oil pressure sender first. They are nortorious for soft
failure where the readings get quite off. US$25, 30 minutes to change out. Re: Low oil pressure on 88's XJ
That pressure doesn't sound too far off for an 88. The senders are not
known to be very accurate when they get old. I would first clean the connection on the sender, then change that or have someone put a mechanical one in to test the real pressure before ripping into the engine.
