New Diffs for the Brute

Re: New Diffs for the Brute
Did I call it or what :)
One of these days I'll meet up and wheel with you. Seems like everytime the Edmonton boys schedule something life gets in the way. Edmonton being the halfway point to home doesn't help either.
Oh well, one day I'll see that thing in action.

Re: New Diffs for the Brute
Today was a good day!! t2c1 and I have the steering ram mount made and welded in with the ram test fit done all that is left is the sway bar mounts. We have to wait for the steering arm to show up before they can be located and welded in place to ensure there is no interferance with the drag link. So for the most part a good clean up and a paint job away and we can assemble the front for the last time and get it under the Brute.
The rear was simpish....we had to get the brakes mounted up...
The brackets needed to be massaged a little to get the calipers to sit properly on the rotors. they are solidly tacked in place and will be welded on with a couple of gussets next week sometime. So as far as the rear is concerned finish weld of the caliper stands, a good cleaning with a coat of black....re assemble and bolt it in...
Not Far to wheelin once again.....and lemme tell ya that will be a big relief!!!
Thanx T for the help!!

Re: New Diffs for the Brute
What are you guys putting into this thing gear wise? crawl ratio numbers???
are you guys sealing up the tubes at the ends aswell?
i guess your using the 9" up front too, they seem so maintance/swap friendly

Re: New Diffs for the Brute
Well the best layed intentions of having the front diff assembled and ready to hang under the Jeep hit a snag. We had to rethink the steering and come up with a different design....no biggie just some different parts. We did however get both diffs cleaned up and most of the housing prep done and ready for re assembly......just a few tweeks, brake lines and seals then we can fill them up and sling them into place.....
Just one pic today of the housings on the ground all black and shiny!!
Thanks t2c1 and 86tincan for all the help!!

Re: New Diffs for the Brute
Well we have had a good couple of days over the holiday season. t2c1, 86tincan and myself have the front diff almost completely assembled and ready to sling in place. The rear diff is ready for assembly and with a good morning of exertion will be ready as well. The steering quandary is rectified and all that is left is the assembly of the tie rod, drag link and track bar/track bar brace.
We ended up changing from a true hi-steer to an inverted T steering set up and notched the sway bar brackets for clearance at full lock...for added security we welded on a 3/16 "doubler plate to the notched section of the sway bar tabs but she looks like it will all work together now.
Here are some pics.....
The "notching on the sway bar mount and the new steering config notice on the bottom pic we also drilled and tapped an adjustable steering stop on the inner c!!
Thanks again for the help guys!!
