Jeep TJ gas milage

Re: Jeep TJ gas milage
I've never owned a TJ, from what I've been told don't walk away from a 4cl...run! The 4.0L in line 6 is no worse then the 4 and is like a anvil in terms of reliability. Better of with the 6 IMO.

Re: Jeep TJ gas milage
I have a 2003 Sahara in the I6, my buddy has the I4. Gas mileage is about the same, but I have way more power than his does. From what I've read in other articals the I6 engine was maxed out in the amount of power that could be gleaned from it and for most (if not all) versions you cannot get any more. Gas usage is the same, you cannot get it any better without making the vehicle lighter. So if you buy an I6 - try to keep it light (don't put on heavy aftermarket parts or steel wheels), keep it well tuned and don't waste money on "better breathing air filters" or throttle body spacers - they just don't work.

Re: Jeep TJ gas milage
Hey, if it's worked for you that's great. I don't have any experience with those kind of modifications, I've kept my Jeep stock (in the engine department anyway). I was just paraphrasing what I'd read on other forums. I'm spending my money on suspension and gears. Because it's my DD I do not want to risk any changes to the engines reliability (and I'm not saying there would be - I just don't want to risk it).

That was kinda what i was getting at ,If this is your DD then your probably better off leaving it stock, BUT if is a toy and you dont mind the fuel mileage penalty a lot more power can be had with some bolt on performance parts
