Driving with doors off in BC

Anyone know the provincial law in BC for driving on the roads with the doors off?

thanks

If your jeep came with doors from the factory, you need to keep them on. On the other hand I see a load of TJ's etc rolling around with their doors off. Your gamble. Check the many posts over on bc4x4.com

I live in Victoria and I've been driving with the doors off for 12 years and never had any problems. and I've been through many road blocks and even pulled over a couple of times.

Yeah, it's really up to the cop if he gives you a ticket or not, or even if they know the correct law themselves. I know a bunch of people on the mainland that have been ticketed for not having doors :( so it's up to you if u want to risk a VI or not.

Here's a good thread on the whole issue.

Bottom line on the whole thing is that:
a) 1986 and later, all jeeps were factory fitted with doors and you "could" be ticketed if you haven't got them on (original equip ... blah blah blah)
b) cj's and previous, doors were optional and you "could" still be ticketed if said cop wants to push things to the point where you have to prove that "your" jeep didn't have them from factory
c) then there's the whole "define doors" debate ;0)

I run without any time I want and have never had a problem with the constabulary - but then, sometimes grey hair buys ya a little leeway ;0) Not saying it's right, just saying I enjoy not being hassled as much as the young'uns around here.

Warnings can result in inspections....
Don't necessarily want that.

I have the same question but for Alberta. It is my understanding that as long as you have your mirros re-mounted to the frame there shouldn't be any problems.

My doors are coming off this summer. Everyone else around here does it.
It won't be an issue unless I run into some crazy renegade cop.
Low profile is the way to go.

have your mirrors re-mounted to the frame ...is all you need in Alberta and as far as I know in BC as well...

:) the internet is a wonderful source of info...lol

FYI all...Looks like in both provinces its legal to drive without side mirrors...but you must have a rear view mirror - with unobstructed view.....so if you have a trailer in tow...you'll have to have your side mirrors in place..I couldn't find anything in regards to doors...but I've never had a prob

Alberta info : Alberta Queen's Printer:

BC info : Table of Contents - Motor Vehicle Act Regulations

In BC Mirrors
7.04 (1) Subject to subsections (3) and (4), every motor vehicle shall be equipped with an inside mirror that provides the driver with an undistorted reflected view of the highway directly to the rear of the vehicle extending to the horizon from a point on the road surface not more than 61 m behind the vehicle.

(2) In addition to the requirements of subsections (1) and (3), every motor vehicle manufactured after January 1, 1973 shall be equipped with an outside mirror on the driver's side that provides the driver with an undistorted reflected view of the adjacent lane of the highway rearward to the horizon from a point on the road surface 11 m behind the driver.

(3) Where the inside mirror of a motor vehicle does not provide the view required by subsection (1), the vehicle shall be equipped with a second outside mirror on the side of the vehicle opposite the driver and in that case the inside mirror may be removed.

(4) Where a trailer or semitrailer in a combination of vehicles diminishes the driver's reflected rear view through the rear view mirrors required by subsections (1) to (3), the towing vehicle in the combination of vehicles shall be equipped with 2 mirrors, one affixed to each side of the motor vehicle, and each to provide the driver with an undistorted reflected view of the adjacent lane of the highway from a point on the road surface 11 m behind the driver to a point on the road surface 61 m from the rear of the combination of vehicles.

For Alberta, that is correct. I went to the local cop shop and talked to the desk Sgt. He pulled up the Law Book and said the same thing. As long as your Vehicle has EITHER side mirrors OR rear view your legal. I talked the RCMP and told me the same thing.

Now, rolling down the highway, doors off and you roll, thats your call. Your right Jeep did make the doors removable, their intent was not to be used on highway, but for off-road ~

Would not EVERY vehicle ever made have doors that were removable if that were not true??

Just my 2 cents

If the Jeep with the doors of the factory, you need it. On the other hand I see a truck, TJ, etc. moving out of the house. You bet. Check the number of messages of bc4x4.com

One thing that I noticed the other day. The sticker above the rear view mirror. It states that the top and doors are ONLY to provide protection from THE ELEMENTS! so if they don't provide protection from impact, then why do we need them by law?

If I knew how to post a pic i would post one of the sticker for all to see!
