XJ window regulator noise
'99 XJ with power windows. The regulator on the driver side was
replaced long ago under warranty. It had the plastic bracket holding
the glass and was replaced with a metal one. Passenger side also broke
- but just after warranty.
Anyway, today when I rolled the window down, when it got to the bottom,
it made a strange sound - a clicking noise kind of like the clutch sound
on a cordless drill when you get a screw seated. The glass still goes
up and down, but the 'clutch' starts clicking when it bottoms out.
Any idea what has failed? A switch of some kind?

Re: XJ window regulator noise
Instead of it just having the clutch click, I'd rather the lights,
bells, whistles and horn blaring at full blast pointing to the Darwin
member of the family that hasn't learn when the window is fully open to
stop pushing the power button.

Re: XJ window regulator noise
I guess you're not aware that there're such things as automatic
switches? The XJ has one. When the window bottoms out, the current
goes up and the switch cuts off. Or at least it used to. Rather than
sarcasm, I need someone who knows to tell me if it is a simple
replacement or is it integral to the regulator such that the whole thing
has to be replaced, again.

Re: XJ window regulator noise
I don't know why it would, the only window sensors I know of are
used in tailgates where it will not allow an idiot to open it until it
is all the way down and out of the way. Of course, you may use your
imagination and put one in the following pages:
http://www.----------.com/XJPanel.pdf and
http://www.----------.com/XJPowerWindowMotor.pdf The motor clutches look
like: http://www.----------.com/pwmotor.jpg
