Re: XJ TPS life span
Thanks for the info. Next time I'll just try cleaning it first before I have
them put in a new one.
When yours went bad, did just the check engine light come on, or did you
start to have problems with the Jeep shifting too?

Re: XJ TPS life span
I have no 'check engine light', my old computer isn't smart enough for
that...
And I have a standard, but my symptoms would have really messed up an
automatic shifter too.
I was getting high revs on start with a stall at the first stop. If it
started back up 'normal' all was fine, if it chose to start back up with
the high revs, then it would crap out again.
On that run this spring, it was stuck at +2000 rpm. Man on the ATV
trail we were on, screaming along at 2K was 'not' fun. The brakes
started smoking from me trying to hold it back.
I gave up trying to restart it to get it to drop and got out and cleaned
the thing. Bingo, instant nice idle again.
My wife mentioned she thought it was back up a bit yesterday, so I need
to do a proper clean and put some fresh dielectric grease on the plug's
rubber seal rather than the quickie 'trail fix' I did with WD40.
