I've read differently: (the Jeep I'm looking at is a '78 CJ-7)
"The Dana 300 was used only in CJs from 1980 until 1986. "

Yeah, I've also read that the 3-speed with it's 2.99:1 1st gear ratio
kinda kills the whole "crawl" idea. I won't fret about it since the
guy I'm trying to buy the Jeep from hasn't even bothered to call me
back yet and he was supposed to call about an hour and 15 minutes ago.
*sigh* I have a pet peeve for people who aren't on time. He was late
meeting with me earlier today for the test-drive, too. Grrr........
Seems (because it *is*) RUDE to me to tell someone you're going to do
something at a certain time and then not do it. :-(

You could be right on that. I was thinking the D300 was used from '76 when
the CJ7 first came out. That said, the D20 is also a gear driven, cast iron
tcase instead of the aluminum case chain driven unit that is used with the
YJ and later. :-)
