Winter Parking Preparations

Re: Winter Parking Preparations
While I don't think a couple of months of winter will age the gas
significantly, a year and a half it too long for gas without Stabil or
some other additive. Either the reseller had something in it already, or
your climate is cold enough to keep it fresh all year [ :) ] but more
likely, you got lucky and just burned up the bad gas without significant
penalty. I'm sure it must've smelled old if you had stuck your nose in
the tank's portal. I don't know how long the OP's winter is, but if it's
more than 3 mos. I'd definitely put Stabil in it. It's cheap.

Re: Winter Parking Preparations
Bad advice Mike!
I guess you were lucky.
Gas doesn't last as long as the old days
If the gas is going to sit for more than a month
you MUST add fuel stabilizer.
Ask any Marine mechanic or even read a marine
owners manual on winter storage issues.
Some other good advice when storing for winter
is to change the oil in the diff's tranny etc.
This ensures there is no moisture to damage said components.
I store my Argo 6X6 every winter and I store my
snowmobile every summer. Been there........
A friend stored his snowmobile one summer
without stabilizer and varnish built up in
the carb....plugged a jet.....melted a piston
Fuel stabilizer is cheap insurance. :-)
Cheers

Re: Winter Parking Preparations
Bad advice Mike!
I guess you were lucky.
Gas doesn't last as long as the old days
If the gas is going to sit for more than a month
you MUST add fuel stabilizer.
Ask any Marine mechanic or even read a marine
owners manual on winter storage issues.
Some other good advice when storing for winter
is to change the oil in the diff's tranny etc.
This ensures there is no moisture to damage said components.
I store my Argo 6X6 every winter and I store my
snowmobile every summer. Been there........
A friend stored his snowmobile one summer
without stabilizer and varnish built up in
the carb....plugged a jet.....melted a piston
Fuel stabilizer is cheap insurance. :-)
Cheers
