79 CJ-7... What special socket is needed to remove the rotors to replace the
front wheel bearings?

My 86 needs a 7 mm allen key.

If it's what I think you're referring to, run down to NAPA and they'll have
it on the rack for fairly cheap. Needed one for my '76 CJ resto. The idiot
that had previously "serviced" the front wheel bearings not only put the hub
seals in backwards, he used a chisel both ways to get the nuts off!

If it's what I think you're referring to, run down to NAPA and they'll have
it on the rack for fairly cheap. Needed one for my '76 CJ resto. The idiot
that had previously "serviced" the front wheel bearings not only put the hub
seals in backwards, he used a chisel both ways to get the nuts off!

Cheap if forty bucks is that to you. A set of sockets at:
http://www.autotoolexpress.com/wheelbearloc.html I don't have a problem
with using and old screwdriver on the 2 1/2" nut, there's plenty of
room, it's just a little over finger tight being held by the bent over
keyed washer, no stronger than old carter key. I'll bet someone with a
socket will twist right through the tooth on the locking washer.
