The synthetic stuff is NOT crap. It has several advantages over wire
rope, including no fraying of wires to cut the user, it will not kink/
crush if wrapped over itself, it doesn't store energy like a steel cable (
I had a hard time buying that too), and it is lighter which is easier on
the person dragging the cable out.
It's inability to be used as a heat sink and susceptibility to high
temperatures is only a problem if you are using a winch that lets the
drum overheat. If and when I have to put another new cable on my
Milemarker hydraulic I may end up going with the synthetic rope.
