T176 tranny ?
I'm looking at a t-176 4 speed for my jeep. The thing is just laying on the
ground, but I can't get it to shift gears...Seems to be stuck in 4th or
reverse. Most other trannys I've had will all shift while out of the
vehicle. Is this normal or is this tranny jammed up somehow?

Re: T176 tranny ?
Well there is a simple failure mode that can cause that. The shifter gets
out of sorts right in the top, easy to fix from the top. Usually happens
when one of the pins in the throat backs out and lets the mechanism ---- to
the side. Raise the boot and look for those pins where the shifter goes in.
If you think thats it I could elaborate further.

You took the top off to insect or for additional clearance, and it
was put back on with one of the forks is out of position.
