Slack in front driveshaft?
Hey guys,
I'm new to the Jeep thing and I have a perhaps dumb question. How much
slack, side to side, is acceptable in the front drive shaft on a CJ? My
shaft is out of the vehicle and there is perhaps 1/8 inch of side to side
slack if I grab it and rock it back and forth. There is no slack at the
point of contact inside the slip joint but at the opening where the smaller
diameter shaft slides into the larger (near the transfer case) there is
movement. I recently purchased one off e-bay (ya'll quit laughing) and the
play is exactly the same as the original I pulled off my jeep. Should I have
mine rebuilt or buy a new one or is this just the way they are? I hope I
have explained my question with clarity..
Thanks,
Charles
