rear seal leak
would a leaking rear seal cause low oil pressure at idle when warm? Jeep in
question has 60 psi cold - then drops to 5-10 at idle after it warms up. new mechanical autometer guage too. -- HomeBrewer |
Re: rear seal leak
Are you running at 240 degrees? Switch to 20/50.
Your external oil pump commonly gets smacked by the differential, if the bump stops were ever missing. It's pressure relief may be jammed wide open. Jammed shut, usually blows the oil filter off. Usually takes buy the whole timing chain cover: http://www.drivetrain.com/jeepengineparts.html God Bless America, ßill O|||||||O mailto:-------------------- http://www.----------.com/ HomeBrewer wrote: > > would a leaking rear seal cause low oil pressure at idle when warm? Re: rear seal leak
Nope.
The crank seals don't really relate to oil pressure, just the bearing clearances. How many miles on the engine? The book calls for 10 psi per 1000 rpm, so your hot idle isn't too far out. If it was too low, the valve train would start to get noisy after idling for a while.
