I had a MAACO job done once here in El Paso. I could have done better with a
roller. Course they vary from franchise to franchise. Look at some of their
work out in their parking lot. I should have done that here because when I
was picking up my van, there were people outside arguing with the manager
over their crap jobs. Again, you get what you pay for. I think my van was
about $400. It might be a good idea to do the prep work yourself - or most
of it. That's the most important thing with any paint job, and they do skimp
on that.

I had a friend in high school that had a '74 Trans Am. He went to Earl
Scheib for a paint job. When he got it back, the first thing I noticed
was that the color was off from stock, but as I got closer, I realized
that they had painted right over the 'screaming chicken' on the hood. A
perfect outline visible. You could trip over the lumps it caused in the
paint. Pretty sure they didn't sand a thing.

Only know two MAACO jobs, and in both the car owner wanted a paint
job but didn't plan to keep the car too many more years. Both of
them went to the MAACO place first and both places were willing to
tell them how to get a better paint job by doing their own
prep work in advance of the paint. Both jobs looked pretty good,
one had a bit of orange peel, which the shop took care of. Actually
both jobs had a smoother surface than the factory inferno red clearcoat
on the missus 95 ZJ.
