Re: 81 CJ5 Steering Gear
If you don't have a slop of a couple of inches at the steering
wheel, before the tires begin to move than the box is not your problem.
Not having the steering wheel return to forward after a turn is largely
an alignment problem, mostly in the caster angle, which is usually
destroyed with any lift.

Re: 81 CJ5 Steering Gear
4+ turns from lock to lock's normal for the short wheelbase Jeep. Not
returning to center's a problem with your alignment. Probably time to take
it to the shop for a good checkup on the front end and all the pieces
parts:)
