Back to Jeeps
I've been wondering if the Liberty is going to be sticking around after they
new 'Jeeps' start rolling out.
Motor Week this morning featured the Jeep Compass. They showed a lot of
clips of it traversing dirt roads and prominently mentioned its 8.1 inch
ground clearance.
I was wondering about those dirt roads, they were so smooth and flat it
looked like they had been graded and rolled at morning.

Unfortunately it's become politically incorrect to show a vehicle
driving cross country. Jeep probably wants to leave those scenes to
the road tests and reviews so as to not alienate the tree huggers.
Don't laugh, tree huggers buy Jeeps too.

Tree huggers buy more Jeeps than anyone. They like to put bike
racks on them and pretend that their $2,000 mountain bike "helps"
the environment. (It can't really help the environment, of
course, if it never comes off the bike rack.) Manufacturers also
want to make people who live at the end of any old gravel road
feel that they "need" a four wheel drive vehicle. Most of the
people where I live buy into this, although there are a few old
coots with an old Dodge 2WD van and a couple of cast iron
radiators in the back, demonstrating that stubbornness is the most
powerful force in the universe.

Truth be told, I wouldn't mind a Gelandewagon - it is an honest proper
offroader. But a M class is a POS that is no way comparable to a Cherokee.
