There isn't on my 91 XJ. I ran into the same thing, not at a multiple of
82,500 miles, either, although it is possible that he odometer was
messed with before I got this Jeep. Note that the O2 sensor had just
been replaced about a month prior.

Anyway, I pulled the bulb (it is a grain of wheat type) and put it
accross 120 volts AC, just to blow the filiment, and put it back. That
way I can always plede innocent with the smog Nazis.

"Gee, the light was on for a second then went out!"

The computer turns on the light at approx 82,500 miles to tell you to do
emission system maintenance. It is just what it says it is, a maintenance
reminder. It won't tell you if something has gone wrong. If you're going to
ignore it anyway, what's the difference?

That would be 82,500 miles since the last reset. If you didn't reset it when
you replaced the O2, it's still counting from the last reset.

Speaking California, the maintenance reminder is not tested for functionality
during a smog test. An illuminated maintenance reminder is also not a reason to
fail a smog test.
