I put mine left of driver's seat on the floor. Used the mag light
holders. Don't know if there is room in the '98 TJ, mine is a '91 YJ

You probably bought some cheap knock-off. I have several mag lites, and they
all get tons of use, and have never done anything but replace an occasional
bulb.

I got my first maglight in 1985 ... that's the one in my Jeep today. I broke
one bulb around 1990, but
the other one is still going strong !
