In addition to the other replies, you want to take the climate where you
live into consideration. If the vehicle is driven off road in the mountains and then stored in the desert well there isn't much chance for water vapor to get into the sump. If the off road is mudding in the rain, and then the vehicle is stored in a coastal area like Puget Sound, a frightful combination of toxic waste can build up over the winter. I would change the oil once a year, right after the last off road run, while the engine is still hot. That way you will drain the maximum amount of poisons each time.
