If you are going up to 35s, you will be glad you didn't put in the 4.10s.

Re: Have now re-geared the TJ!
I am running 4.56 gears with my TJ and 33"s - I can now pass in 5th!
I like the power. Do not start getting caught up in these details.
You did it and do not look back. If you had gone with 4.10 you would
be saying something else. Also this fits in with the golden rule go
big go once. Regearing is very expensive and you only want to do it
once

Re: Have now re-geared the TJ!
Hi Jim,
If you had steel wheels, Dana 44s front & rear, skid plates, rock
bumpers, winch, hi-lift, tools, chains, and drove with the top down,
you'd probably find a few hills where your 4.10s would have you lugging
in 5th at highway speed. If such weight gain is in your future, you
probably won't regret your gear choice.
When I lifted my daily driver XJ for 33s, I went 4.10 and it works well
for me. It's a bit more aerodynamic than a TJ, so that helps. With a
moderate load, the 4.0L easily holds 70-75 at 23-2400 rpm in fifth on
any hill just feathering the gas. I've since installed rear Dana 44 and
2x6 box steel rockers and I did notice a slight decrease in performance.
When I get around to D44 front, steel wheels, plates, bumpers, winch,
etc., I may yen for 4.56. Then again, with 4.10s I always have a choice
- I can tick along at 2300 when the grades are moderate and simply drop
back to 4th when I actually need to run at 3000 rpm.
