Is there not some kind of replacement warranty for that type of caliper
if they give grief as yours are obviously doing?

I wouldn't worry about the surface rust, but be aware that anything not
lubed up right will rot that fast....

You might want to be aware out the following class action lawsuit and
settlement:

Page down to the section on WJ brake pulsation, also the TSBs on what
they're doing about it. Inspections for 03's and 04's have already
started and may include new rotors and pads. A settlement for 99's
through 02's is still pending and may not happen, so have it checked out
but save any receipts in case you may entitled to reimbursement later.

That explain why the outside rotor wasn't being used, NOT the
