Re: Engine Compatibilities
You need to dump that 2.3L V6 no matter how much trouble it is. That is
quite possibly the very worst motor to ever be pushed off of an assembly
line.

Re: Engine Compatibilities
I think a really neat swap would be to a northstar v8, 250 hp in the 4.0
Olds Aurora version or up to 300 hp in the 4.6 Cadillac version. It
utilizes the same bellhousing bolt pattern as the 60 degree v-6's. There's
lots of info on swapping them into Fiero's in place of the 2.8 found in
those. Need to modify the bellhousing a bit because the starter in the
northstar is nestled under the intake so you need to cut a small hole for
the nose of the starter. Probably have to have a flex plate fabricated and
a lot of exhaust fabs etc, but wouldn't it be a fun truck to drive. It's
truly an exceptional engine with a split crankcase design for a super solid
bottom end, 32 valve double overhead cams, factory oil cooler setp. Lots of
neat things.

Re: Engine Compatibilities
Thank you. That is exactly the kind of information I was looking for.
Bill, you are a wealth of information.
It's not that I want to put a blown 5.0 in it or anything, just something
with a little more torque. I may try to go with the GMC crate engine HT
3.4L. Which leads me to a new question.
It states on the website
http://www.gmgoodwrench.com/perfpart...f/12363230.pdf
that it doesn't have a clutch boss cast onto the block. Do I need one? I
replaced my slave cylinder about a month ago and with it being a wet clutch
it mounts into the bellhousing. The only engine swaps that I have done are
on FWD cars, which wouldn't need one either. Isn't a clutch boss an
extension of the block to act like a fulcrum for the clutch linkage on other
vehicles? I could easily be wrong though. Please correct me if I am.
