The PCV flow is metered to match the intake hose from the air filter and
the charcoal canister purge input.
If the elbow has half collapsed, that can interfere enough to give you
some oil blowing into the air filter. They are really touchy about
that. Even a bad leak on the valve cover gaskets or grommets can affect
the flow enough to spit oil.
If you can pinch off the PCV line from the back of the carb to the
canister and the idle doesn't change, then I would just change the air
filter on the canister to make the canister flow right and fix that
elbow up and then see what happens.

I actually had the base filter out of the cannister last night as well.
All was dry and reasonably clean (took it out and cleaned it anyways). The
cannister itself is dry and seems in reasonably good working order.

I actually had the base filter out of the cannister last night as well.
All was dry and reasonably clean (took it out and cleaned it anyways). The
cannister itself is dry and seems in reasonably good working order.
