Re: Differential bearing gone bad
Hi Earle,
It's hard to say with your four banger. If I were in your position,
well, I wouldn't be you your position. ;-) Isn't there a saying like,
don't spend good money after bad? Maybe, keep your eyes and hears open
for a 44. But, if you wait for it to break, you haven't lost anything
the 35s have no salvage value.

That's different, most 9.25's lived to make it out of warranty! (What thr

If you MUST keep the POS, then it's good, if expensive, move.
However, D35s fail in many other ways besides the c-clip. The axle shafts
snap, the pinion bearings over heat & fail, etc. (And that's on a good day!)
If you do the conversion you'll lose the c-clip and the one I saw had larger
axle shafts. Another say to go is one of the "Super 35" kist, like from
superior, etc. but they still use c-clips. Be sure to have the housing check
to make sure the tubes aren't bent. (Frankly if I were you I'd get a 9" od
D44 and use the 35 for ballast.)

Long story, but to cut it short the housing leaked where the tube came out
of the center portion, and the "Five Star Dealer" mechanic was unable to
swap the guts to a new housing without completely buggering things up.

That's funny, I've never seen one... What roads and trails are these on?
I agree they are undersized for the 4.0L TJ, but they certainly don't
"litter the roads and trails".
