Big differences in Ford case, input, output and tail housing. Throw
a set of sync rings in your T-5, and fix your clutch linkage.

If your T-5 must be rebuilt, I think you will find that rebuilding it will cost
more that the cost to buy the T-18, the adapter and other necessary parts to
mate the T-18 to the Dana 300. If it is a Ford T-18, the length of the
tranny and Advance Adapters adapter will be the same length as the T-5 so no
driveshaft modifications will be required. (Don't know about the Jeep T-18.)

I would forget about using the Dana 20 transfer case. Low range is only 2:1,
whereas the Dana 300 is 2.62:1. There are other installation issues as well.

The pros of a T-18 - it is substantially stronger than a T-5, and if it has the
6.32:1 1st gear you will substantially increase your crawl ratio.

The only negative to the T18 is that you will not have an overdrive 5th gear.
(I swapped to a T-19 - same as T-18 but with synchro in 1st - but because mine
is primarily a trail rig and not a freeway flyer I have seldom missed 5th
gear.)

You need to determine if it is a Ford or Jeep T-18, and what 1st gear ratio you
have. (the 6.32:1 is most desirable and also the most rare).

I think it would be worthwhile for you to contact Advance Adapters for their
catalog and installation guide. You might also want to contact Novak
Engineering in Utah. AA and Novak are the gurus of tranny swaps. They should
be able to answer all of your questions and supply everything you need for the
swap.

Yes there is. But you will need an adapter from Advance Adapters or Novak. It
is a slick swap because the length of the T-18 with adapter is the same as the
Jeep T-5 with factory adapter so no driveline mods are necessary. I had my
T-5 out, the T-19 in, and the job finished in 1/2 day.

[note: T-19 is just a T-18 with synchro 1st)

$489.00 for adaptor from Novack, I think I would rebuild what you have
there.
