Cherokee change in 2000?
A friend of mine told me that there was some sort of change to the XJ engine
in '00, something to do with the emmisions system. Is this the case, and if
so what are the implications / is it something to be concerned about?
Looking at an '01 auto with 102k miles. Thanks

Re: Cherokee change in 2000?
They went to distributer-less coil on plug, and there were changes to
the intake manifold (smoother bends) to restore the power they lost to
emissions detuning. The injectors are different also. If you are
replacing an older motor you can still use your old distributer and
coil, but you may need to splice in the injectors plugs and sensors.
Have you considered a 4.5 L stroker?

Re: Cherokee change in 2000?
Actually, for a change, I am not considering an engine swap, just looking at
an '01 Cherokee and was wondering if there was anything to be concerned
about.

Re: Cherokee change in 2000?
The only other change was in the front axle. It was previously a high-pinon
Dana 30, starting in 2000 it was a low-pinon Dana 30. If you don't know the
difference, it probably won't matter.
