Re: check engine light
Something got wet....
I took every plug and socket I could get my hands on apart and used
dielectric grease on the sealing parts of the plugs on both of my
Jeeps. They sell the grease cheap, sometimes it is called 'spark plug
boot protector'.
If you look at your engine, you will likely see the splash marks. Those
are the first places to hit with the grease.
If you have a distributor cap like mine, when cold water hits it
condensation happens inside big time. This will make it stall and mis
like crazy once you get it going.
Any parts like that can be opened and sprayed out with WD40. It is a
Water Displacement fluid and doesn't conduct electricity. You just
spray and give it a shake or fast wipe and put it back on.
If you have a distributor cap, Ford make a rubber cover for distributors
that works well at stopping the cold shock of water on the cap. They
can be got free usually at a wreckers.
If yours is one coil per plug, then dielectric grease is the way to go.
That should leave no room for condensation.
I can run in 42" of standing water (bottom of headlights) in my CJ7
without issues. Well, a wet butt is kinda an issue, but...
You also need to check your air intake. Some of them are hooked to a
scoop just below the headlight. That is a broken engine usually if
water gets up that high. If you do have a tube there to the front, you
should remove it.

My intake is up front now... ;-)
Thanks. My wife took that picture. :-) See that Jeep in the
background? That's the CJ-8 that my friend has...the one who helped
me keep from rolling my Jeep. Tomorrow I'm going over to his house
and he's gonna help me put a body lift on my Jeep, then we're gonna go
offroading... Or at least that's the plan. I hope we have enough
time. I'm gonna bring my camera so I'll take plenty o' pictures. He
says there's a mudhole near his house that will swallow my Jeep. We
(my Jeep and I) are laughing at it right now. ;-) "Let's rock."

me keep from rolling my Jeep.
