They got that way because the lack restrictions on burning
petroleum products like cole oil. We mine and burn lots of cole, too,
but we're nice enough to use scrubbers to save our neighbors lungs. If
Europe was responsible, they would too, then the scaffolding we see on
their old buildings to clean them would last a year or two.

Next to the French-no one is worse the French-we, the Americans, are
the most obnoxious people there are when abroad. Those of us who even
go.
And next to the Brazilians, we're the most insular nation on earth.
We think the ROW is some weird, faraway place where the people are
dumb and don't matter.
The cleanest city in the United States is New York City, specifically
the Borough of Manhattan. If you'd have told me that fifteen years
ago, I'd have said you are nuts. But today it's true.
Most cities in Germany are cleaner, though.
Much of Europe is cleaner, wealthier, and safer than the US is. That
doesn't mean I am going to move there. I like being an American.
Bill -------a loudmouthed, ignorant son of a bitch, and those are his
good points-is an American too, and he has a right to his opinions, as
does his trucker-***-in-denial pal. But having the right to be wrong
doesn't make you right.
We are way behind the ROW, or the sophisticated parts, in a lot of
ways. They have easy access to cars with better safety features than
ours, and with efficient electronic common rail diesel engines that
pollute less and burn less fuel, and they have ULSD fuel that for all
intents and purposes is Jet A grade. They have better cell phones,
better broadcast TV, etc.,etc. On the other hand they also have sky
high taxes on everything, poor plumbing-four star hotels often stink
of -----and pretty women whose feet, armpits, mouths and vaginas will
totally foul out their immaculately maintained subway cars.
I like being an American. I pay my taxes, I vote, I do all the stuff
I'm supposed to. But I don't think sticking my head up my *** and
ignoring the rest of the world is intelligent. I don't think it's
patriotic. I don't even think it's okay. It's ignorant, it's stupid,
and it makes us look dumb to everyone else on this miniscule sphere of
rock orbiting this unexceptional, common star in this backwater of a
ordinary galaxy.

Aero diesels are older than I thought - the Junkers J52 bomber had a Jumo
diesel engine developing
500-700hp from a 28 litre engine in 1929 !
