The Haynes Manual shows a code for the gas cap and emissions system on a
'91. If it will set a code, it will trigger the check engine light.

Your vapor system is sealed, to save our atmosphere from fuel
vapor, now if the gas cap were loose, it wouldn't be sealed, would it?

Mike R and others think so but it's not the case. 91 XJ couldn't care less if
you have a gas cap or not. It doesn't even have an evap system trouble code
because it has no means to monitor the evap system.
