Fill the clutch reservoir with brake fluid, then find it's leak inside
the firewall from it's push rod or from the slave drip at bottom of
bellhousing.
You don't have one of those funning body lifts that shifted blocking the
linkage?

What said but it might also be a failure to quite grab high range, the
grinding noise might be the transfer case hi range shifter dog. There is
an adjustment on the 4wd shift lever that should fix that.
Also, check the gear lube level and quality in the tranny and the
transfer case. They can leak ever so slowly over time, run really low
after a while. They also like to take on water, turns the oil to a pea
soup color.
