There aren't many stupid questions, just dumb answers....
Just so you know the Haynes CJ manual is an excellent one. It isn't
expensive and is really accurate for most CJ stuff.

Not stupid, just ignorant, nothing wrong with that, ignorances can be
cured, stupidity can't!
So have you solved your problem yet? Could be the fitting is loose,
could be the gage itself. I had a a gage go bad years ago and it was
actually leaking oil INSIDE the gage. (not in a Jeep, it was a
Studebaker Hawk).

Re: 83 cj7
Jeff, Mike and David thanks for the responses. I did get it fixed,
well I think. I am not sure how much pressure runs through that but
when I got under the dash I was able to unscrew it by hand when I
tested the connection. I put a bit of that pipe tape on the threads
then but it back on with a wrench to snug it up. I haven't driven too
far to see if it is going to hold but I am pretty sure if it does I can
figure it out now that I know what is actually leaking. Been too long
sitting in this clean office staring at a computer, bout time I get
some grease and oil under my finger nails again.

Re: 83 cj7
You are welcome. Do you have the full gauges 'Laredo' chrome package?
Mine has the chrome grill, all gauges including clock, chrome rims,
stainless bumper and leather on the steering wheel and panic bar. I
believe it was supposed to have a chrome dash plate too, but I got the
dash stripped.
The 4.2 engine, if you have it, has some really strange emissions crap
that has some well known quirks, so post here before spending money,
lots of us know them pretty well.
