77 CJ5 Emissions Requirements
I am looking at a 77 CJ5 6 cylinder. What emissions equipment came from the
factory with this vehicle? I just finished a 79 CJ7 and had to put all the
emissions, air pump, injectors, etc to get it through inspection here in
North Carolina. I am trying to find a year that doesn't require emissions
so I can drop a 350 in it that I have sitting in my garage.
Thanks,
Wade

Re: 77 CJ5 Emissions Requirements
Hi Wade,
Everything. If you can hold off registration for another couple of
months your car will become twenty five years old and exempt, or so this
document indicates: http://www.----------.com/NCsmogInspection.jpg Here
in Kalyfornia, I have to wait until year 2008 before I can drop in my
460" into my '78 Bronco. :-(

Re: 77 CJ5 Emissions Requirements
What's wrong with a good old fashioned 351 Modified?

Re: 77 CJ5 Emissions Requirements
I used to do a few things I thought I could get away with, like my
550 CFM Holley two throat, and dual exhaust, and switch back and forth
for the two year inspections: http://www.----------.com/smog.jpg But we
have road blocks checking for fragrant smog violators with big money
fines. And if you've ever felt the gut wrenching gear growling sounds
form your rear end, caused by a big block Ford, you'll know there's no
substitute for cubic inches.
