Re: 7 speaker option
I just bought a Rubi and wanted the 7-spkr./sub. option, but could not find
one otherwise equipped as I wanted with it, so what are some suggestions for
improving the sound of the standard stereo. I don't want to give up console
space and have a soft top, so a "stealth" installation would be great.
Perhaps a custom box behind a front seat? Rear seat?
Let's hear it from those who have done it!
Thanks.

Re: 7 speaker option
Cheapest way possible is to put pillow stuffing behind the stock speakers...
Next is to replace the stockers with something better... Here's a writeup on
swapping out the dask speakers:
http://www.rockcrawler.com/techrepor...kers/index.asp
Add a decent amp under the seat or something and there ya go... Total
stealth.

Re: 7 speader option
The "sub" woofer in the center console is small and boomy because of the
space limitation.
It takes a large box volume to properly load most decent woofers. The
factory sub plays what I call one-note bass. The bass control slider's
frequency is too high to tame this large bass peak. I've been real tempted
to just disable my sub and probably will after it warms up a bit. It would
probably be possible to find an aftermarket woofer that is a better match
for the console woofer cavity which would even out the response but it will
have other trade offs too. Other than that the rest of the system isn't too
bad but is probably somewhat of a rip off for what the package costs.
If you are at all serious about music in your jeep go with the basic factory
CD system (or nothing) and sink the difference into better aftermarket
components. The only to get even acceptable bass in a wrangler is to put a
box, properly sized for maximum low freq. response and flatness for a
specific good quality woofer , behind the back seat. A woofer and it's
(properly designed) cabinet are a tuned system - arbitrarily changing either
will get you varying magnitudes of poorer performance.
